
Plan 2011 - Think Green Act Green
- Increase Recycling by at least 5% in 2011 to a level of 25% within WEC's Challenge to Town to Increase Total Amount Recycled to 40% by 2014.
- Continue Program to Educate Town Residents on Energy and Water Conservation in the Home. Two Mailings Making Suggestions on Specific Actions to Take for Summer and Winter Conservation of Energy and Water. Put Conservation Data and Links on WEC Website.
- Advocate for Clean Power Alternatives by Working Jointly with CT Clean Energy Options to Selectively Increase Number of Washington Homes Participating in Program by Distribution of Promotional Literature & Sign Up Applications.
- Increase College Scholarships for Environmental Studies from Five to Ten Scholarships and Arrange for Requisite Funding on Five "Named Scholarships".
- Expand the Council’s Involvement with Local Schools to Promote:
- Edible Schoolyard Programs, Nutritional Lunch Programs and Recycling Initiatives.
- Adopt a River Program for Periodic Clean-up of Riverbank Thrash and Identification of Riparian Invasives on the Shepaug River.
- Trout in the Classroom Programs.
- Maintain our Harwood Memorial Lecture Series on Environmental Topics at Two per Year. Consider Lecture Tie in to 40th Anniversary Reception for Members and Residents.
- Publish our Environmental Newsletter at least Twice Per Year. Do Layout in House.
- Continue to Update and Expand the Council's Website so it becomes a Better Vehicle for Environmental Education, WEC Visibility and Improved Fund Raising Capability.
- Design Earth Day and Climate Day Programs to Include Other Washington Organizations, Local Schools and Greater Participation by Town Residents.
- Water Testing of Shepaug under CT Environmental Protection Agency Programs.
- Promote:
- Immediate Action as Environmental Watch Dog to Prevent Environmental Degredation Before it Occurs as Needed.
- 40th Anniversary Program to Increase WEC Visibility and Funding Opportunities.
- Household Hazardous Waste Program to Increase Participation to at Least 2009 Levels of 120+ Cars vs. Only 68 Cars in 2010.
- Energy Conservation Education Program for Local Churches.
- Local Farms/Local Foods Initiatives.
- Invasive Plants Identification Walks for Town Residents. Develop Website Section on Invasives and Links to Sources of Eradication Techniques for Invasives.
- Use of Grant Monies to Fund Appropriate WEC Programs and Projects.
