Our Programs

WEC is involved with a number of programs throughout the year.

Harwood lecture series

The Harwood Lecture series was established in 1992 in honor of Michael Harwood, one of the founders of the Washington Environmental Council. Originally a biennial program, lectures are now held on relevant environmental topics more frequently and are open to the public at no charge.

events

WEC holds a number of environmental events each year, including our annual Earth Day Roadside Cleanup and 5K.

scholarships

The Washington Environmental Council annually provides scholarships to students that study in the town of Washington and are interested in pursuing environmental education.

local issues

WEC helped lead the way in making the Town of Washington the first municipality in Connecticut to ban the storage, use and transport of toxic fracking waste. The next goal is to pass a ban on single-use plastic bags in town.
